Eric's Road to Recovery

My Son’s Road to Recovery

I think back three years to the day my youngest son was diagnosed with autism three weeks before his third birthday. I was numb with shock. You always think these kind of things can only happen to other people. Eric seemed to develop normally from birth but started to regress in his second year. We knew something was wrong but thought he might have a hearing problem of some sort because he had no speech, would not respond when we called him, and had many temper tantrums. I was scared but as I began to research and educate myself as to what autism is and the prognosis, scared turned to petrified. Petrified as to what the world would hold for Eric. It looked pathetically grim. Things were worse than I originally thought, but I decided we were going to beat this disorder, disease, or syndrome. I didn’t even know what to call it.
Not knowing how difficult it was going to be, we started our journey. After hundreds of hours of research my husband and I would make decisions as to what therapies might be able to help Eric. For two years we went all over the country seeing doctors we thought might have some answers. We dedicated ourselves to months of exhausting detoxification programs, doing chelation therapy and allergy shots, I’m not saying these therapies are not good, but they can be expensive, difficult to do, and Eric did not show the slightest bit of improvement from them. Next we tried a gluten free diet, a sugar free diet, and avoidance of all known allergens. He did show a little improvement with all these, but they are tough on both parents and children to adhere to, plus autistic children are allergic to so much, foods and environmentally, it is impossible to keep them away from everything. These diets made me realized that allergies are a huge problem when it comes to children with autism and other learning disabilities.
Frustrated with diets and allergy shots a friend informed me that she heard of another treatment called NAET that sounded a lot easier than what we were doing. She explained that kinesiology is used to find out what allergies are, the child is then exposed to the item and after treatment does not reject it as with an allergen. To tell you the truth it sounded to good to be true. After going to NAET web site and making a few telephone calls I began to fell that maybe this could help Eric.
We began NAET treatment right away. After clearing the first five items, Eric picked up some blocks with numbers on them; he had never sown any interest in these blocks in the past. As my husband and I sat in the living room observing him, Eric lined the numbers up in the correct order on a window ledge and said each number out loud. We had never heard him talking in his little voice before. What a joy this brought us. We continued NAET treatments regularly with improvement. After Eric cleared for wheat and gluten he could eat wheat without any problems. Candida was a big problem for Eric and once he was cleared of sugar and yeast he no longer had to be on an anti-candida diet and there have been no signs of candida. NAET has made life a lot easier and enjoyable for Eric. Today Eric is able to ask for things he wants. He is starting to put words together to for phrases.
He can say his ABC’s and count to thirty. I can point out any letter or number to him and he can tell me what it is. He is much calmer and able to sit for an hour and a half straight which makes it easier for him to learn. His eye contact is much improved along with his eating habits. Instead of looking at my son with sorrow as I did in the past, I can look at him with hope for the future. He is happier than I have ever seen. He is really starting to excel.
I want to thank Dr. Devi for sharing her discovery with the world and also those who have made Eric’s treatments possible. NAET has given Eric the opportunity to live life. He still has areas needing improvement but his progress is ongoing as we cleared his many allergies.
